Auvi-Q has recently had a nationwide recall. Auvi-Q is an epinephrine auto-injector. It is the one that would talk to you! They have been recalled because it was found that the injector didn’t always delivery the right amount of medicine. For now, there seems to be a hold on the production of Auvi-Q. This means if you are an Auvi-Q carrier, you will need to get a different epinephrine auto-injector. 2017 UPDATE: Auvi-Q is coming back onto the market –here is an article with information about Auvi-Q (including other options and coupons!)
Other options out there are the well known EpiPen (brand only) and the not so well known Adrenaclick. The Adrenaclick is available in generic!! Which means you can save some major $$! Ask your prescriber to write for “Adrenaclick generic” or “epinephrine auto-injector 0.3mg” (or 0.15mg for kids). It is important the prescriber writes it this way because most pharmacies are NOT allowed to substitute the generic for scripts written for Auvi-Q or EpiPen.
One issue is that the Adrenaclick and generic does not include the “trainer pen”. So, visit their website –CLICK HERE to watch a video that explains how to use it properly.
As everyone knows, that has had to carry an epinephrine auto-injector, they can be quite pricey! If you need to pay cash for additional auto-injectors, call around and see difference in prices (all pharmacies price medications differently) and use some coupons!
