Over the last few years, both Cate and I have made some real effort in Naturalizing our Lives. Quite often, the best way to naturalize is to make as much as possible at home. In my research, I found that there are two groups of people that like homemade products:
Group 1: They want to Naturalize their life as much as possible –making items at home means that we know exactly what is going into our food and products.
Group 2: They want to make as much at home, because most often this is a BIG money saver.
Both groups reap the rewards of homemade, healthy and love infused food and home products.
I wrote an article Homemade Deodorant that gives a super easy recipe and tips for handcrafted deodorant.
Since that article, I found that I am sensitive to using baking soda and was forced to find alternatives. First, I used my own hint and just patted the baking soda on top of the coconut oil -no dice! My body did not want baking soda under my arms (I do use it for shampoo -quite successfully!).
Then I tried using JUST coconut oil -and it worked…in the winter time…once summer came, I was a stinky mess again!
Here is what I do now and it works wonderfully!
1) soap and water 🙂
2) Chlorophyll tablets daily-this has been used throughout history to help battle body odor (and bad breath).
(if you click on the picture it will take you to Amazon.com–which is where I buy mine)
3) Dab on some Apple Cider Vinegar with a cotton ball and let dry. This helps control any bacteria. (I use Bragg’s- you can get this on Amazon too -what can’t you get! 🙂 but I usually get mine from our local grocery store…it is typically less expensive at the grocery store)
4) and the Cadillac of natural deodorants: Lavanila! This, I have not been able to find locally at all. It is about $14 but it WORKS, it lasts AND it is a natural, healthy deodorant!
(this will take you to Amazon again -if you click on the picture–affiliate link)
AND one of my new FAVS! is Dr. Mercola’s lavender deodorant , I think this works even better than the Lavanila…this may be the Mercedes of natural deodorants (at least for my body 😉
And Voila! that is my daily routine to battle the B.O.!
It works WONDERFULLY for me!! I would love to hear what you use at home and how it works for you -please leave me a commen
**Btw -to be super transparent: we get a li’l bit of change (ie 25 cents) if you click on the Amazon link. That being said, we ONLY put links for products that we have USED and LOVE. And the links other than Amazon we do not make any $$. We will always shoot you straight! 🙂
