gallery Homemade Deodorant

Hi all!  I am on a journey to Naturalize my life–to feel better and to take control of my life and my body!   This has included and has future plans for many changes –one super simple, super cheap, super duper awesome is changing to homemade/natural deodorant.

I have to admit, this change has been ongoing for about 6 months–I have gone from antiperspirant to store bought natural deodorants to homemade and then back again.  I am here to tell you, homemade deodorant works BETTER for odor then both store bought natural deodorant and poison-filled antiperspirant!

I ask you to come along on this journey and make a change –give it 2 weeks…actually, I noticed a difference in1 day -no joke!!  Even when I used antiperspirant, by the end of the day I would need to reapply due to b.o.!  With homemade deodorant -it lasts all day.

There are lots of recipes out there for homemade deodorant –here is one of the easiest and cheapest:

1/4 cup Arrowroot Powder

1/4 cup Baking Soda

6 TBS Coconut Oil

Mix Arrowroot and Baking Soda together.  Add Coconut oil and mix (I use my hand to mix).  Transfer into a container with lid and Fini!  I put mine in the fridge for ~2 hours to let it solidify a little then I store it at room temperature in my bathroom.  I use my fingertips to gently rub into my underarms and allow the magic to work! 🙂

Li’l notes:

I am scared this won’t be enough odor fighting power?!  Once you apply the deodorant, you can brush on (with hand or blush brush) extra baking soda on top.  The extra baking soda will give a li’l boost to your deodorant.

Can I use cornstarch instead of arrowroot?  Yes, however I try to avoid most corn products because about 98% are GMO –which I like to avoid.  Also, people are more likely to be allergic to or irritated by cornstarch.

What if this recipe is irritating?  If the Arrowroot, Baking Soda and Coconut oil mix causes some irritation -it is most likely from the Baking Soda.  Go ahead and decrease the amount of baking soda (replace with an increase in arrowroot).  Then once you apply the deodorant, use a blush brush or your hand and pat on some baking soda on top.  The baking soda will stick because the deodorant has moistened your armpit and it will fight against bacteria and odor!

Can I add essential oils?  But of course!  I have used Tea Tree, Lavender and Eucalyptus.  I have also used Peppermint -which I don’t suggest b/c it can be extremely irritating!!!

This simple change will save you money and promote better health!  I would love to hear about your experiences and recipes!!  Also, any suggests for changes that will help lead to a NATURALIZED life! 🙂
