It has been pouring buckets of rain mixed with some crazy thunder and lightening storms for the past few nights here in Charlotte…reminds me of my days in Miami, me gusto mucho!!! 

 

Nova and I have been quite busy with a little something we’re putting together for you guys…can’t wait to show it to you J

 

I got a concerned phone call at work last night that I wanted to share with you.  The question was:

 

I had one vodka tonic drink and I accidentally took one trazodone 50mg tablet – should I make myself throw-up?

 

Most definitely not! 

 

In general, drinking alcohol and taking medications is not the best idea, mostly because you don’t know how your body is going to react with the mixture.  Alcohol may change your mood, mess with your drug treatment, and increase your chance of having side effects when taken with certain medications. 

 

However, in this patient’s case, since she only had 1 drink and took a low dose of trazodone, she has a very good chance of being A-okay!  Let’s put it this way, if I were her, I would not be concerned.

 

I guess I should mention that both trazodone and alcohol have the tendency to cause such side effects as sleepiness, dizziness, and nausea, so when taken together in larger doses, there could be a bit of a problem.  In fact, your body would most likely help itself by starting the vomiting process (unless you took waaaaaayyyyyy too much and went straight into overdose mode)! 

 

The 1 drink and 1 trazodone tablet that this patient took might actually help her sleep that much better.  In this particular patient case, if her body wasn’t going to be able to handle what she took in, she would’ve started throwing-up on her own…no need to make herself throw-up! J
